Medlar 'Dutch' Description: Fruit of this interestesting middle eastern plant are used for paste, jelly and wines. They must be "bletted" or left to break down the acids and tannins before they can be eaten . Very hardy tree. Graft union should be planted below soil level. Prunus spinosa- Sloe Plum or Blackthorn Description: Hardy large shrub or small tree.  Used extensively in the United Kingdom for hedging.  It produces small round 'berries' used  for Sloe Gin, wine and other alcoholic beverages. Quince 'Rosie's Favourite' Description: This variety of Quince was found at a pre 1900’s homestead in the Huon Valley, Tasmania. It has very large fruit of excellent flavour which is ideal for jellies, conserves and pastes. Large white flowers are very showy in Spring so Quinces can also be incorporated into the ornamental garden. No pollinating variety is required. Very hardy small to medium sized tree approximately 4m x4m at maturity.
