Prunus serrulata ‘Kanzan’

Pink-red buds open to fully double, bright-pink blooms in late-Spring. An abundance of blooms hang in pendant clusters, ‘Kanzan’ is a marker for the later flowering cherries

Young foliage is bronze-green, and trees are well leafed out when in full bloom. Summer foliage is dark green, turning orange and red in Autumn.

A vigorous, vase shaped tree, gracefully spreading with age. Mature trees will take on a wine glass shape, as the branches hang with the weight of the blooms.

Tree Size:

Will grow to approximately 5 m high and 4 m wide (at 20 years).

Available as a low graft tree, trained to a standard style.

Trees are large, have been trained to a straight central leader with a clear trunk to around 1.5 m in height.

Tree Care: For best results plant in full sun in fertile, free draining soil, preferably a friable loam with good aeration.

If the soil is free draining, dig a hole twice the size of the root ball, plant the tree so the top of the root ball is level with the soil line and back fill with a soil and compost mixture. If the soil is not free draining, plant the tree in a raised mound of soil and compost mix, to prevent water logging.

Water in well at planting, and water regularly, especially in dry spells. Cherries are shallow rooted and young trees will benefit from being mulched. Apply mulch in a ring around the tree base, keeping clear of the trunk.

Please stake your tree.
