Prunus ‘Kojo No Mai’
A slow growing, dwarf cherry with a distinctive zig-zag growth habit and year-round interest, this small ornamental cherry is exquisite and will suit any garden.
An abundance of small and delicate, pale-pink single blooms in early Spring, which fade to blush white.
Leaves are small, and dark-green through Summer, becoming a stunning red in Autumn.
In Winter, Kojo No Mai has an architectural presence, as the zig-zag habit of the branches can be fully appreciated.
The compact and slow growth make ‘Kojo No Mai’ suitable for large containers, rockeries, Japanese style gardens, bonsai and small gardens,
Due to the growth habit and delicate nature of this tree, it will be shipped in a box, seperate to any other trees purchased. If you are purchasing other tree varieties in the same order, or ordering multiple Kojo No Mai trees, please contact me at sales@maplegrovenursery.com.au to order this special tree.
If you require a particular graft height for bonsai, please email me at sales@maplegrovenursery.com.au and we will be happy to graft to order.
If you require a very low graft, you can also bury the rootstock for your Kojo No Mai deeper in the soil and easily encourage root growth higher up the stem.
Tree Size: 2 m high by 2 m wide (at 20 years)
Tree Care: For best results plant in full sun in fertile, free draining soil, preferably a friable loam with good aeration.
If the soil is free draining, dig a hole twice the size of the root ball, plant the tree so the top of the root ball is level with the soil line and back fill with a soil and compost mixture. If the soil is not free draining, plant the tree in a raised mound of soil and compost mix, to prevent water logging.
Water in well at planting, and water regularly, especially in dry spells. Cherries are shallow rooted and young trees will benefit from being mulched. Apply mulch in a ring around the tree base, keeping clear of the trunk.
