Step 1: Understand what you are buying.
We sell bare rooted, fully dormant trees. We ship them well packed with moist sawdust or recycled newspaper so the roots won't dry out. Bare rooted trees have more natural root systems because the roots are not restricted by growing in a pot. We don’t sell or recommend so called ‘advanced’ trees. When smaller trees are planted they will adapt better to their new environment and grow faster than taller trees. Buying bare rooted trees also means that they don't take up much space once they are packed and are much easier to carry and ship.
We are a small nursery and all our trees are propagated on-site. We are not a reseller. As the demand for cold hardy trees increases, be sure to order early as demand exceeds supply. They are grown outside to be ready for real life when planted in your yard. We specialize cold climate trees.
Our dispatch months are July and August, when the trees are fully dormant. Once we’ve received your order we will provide a post/freight quotation for your order. If you’re in our local area you are welcome to collect your order by appointment from our filed nursery. Do not expect to find a huge garden centre with buildings, greenhouses, machinery, and employees, because you won't see any of that!
We offer our own tree deliveries within Tasmania as per the prices below based on kilometres from our field nursery in the Huon Valley, southern Tasmania. All other areas (outside Tasmania) we use Australia Post. We are limited by Australia Post size restrictions and cannot post anything over 1m in length. We can, at no harm to the tree, prune upright growing varieties to fit this criteria, however we are unable to do this to weeping trees.
Costs for delivery in Tasmania only via Our Deliveries from our field nursery in the Huon Valley:
Please note: we do not deliver to Bruny Island. Australia Post if the only option for this area.
Step 4: Understand about ordering
Ordering opens in March of each year and runs through to the end of dispatch in August.
Step 5: Confirmations
Once your order has been placed we will send you a confirmation invoice. If you don’t receive this within 14-21 days please contact us to make sure we’ve received your order. We will contact you as soon as your trees are ready to be dispatched and organise payment and a convenient time for delivery or collection. We only accept direct deposit for postal orders and cash or direct deposit for orders being collected.
If you prefer you may like to try your hand at grafting yourself with our Do-It-Yourself Grafting Kit. For suitable rootstocks please see the Rootstock page.
Price:$165 plus postage. *If you would like to purchase both knives the cost is an additional $55, knives may vary in style from the ones shown.
