Acer platanoides 'Crimson Sentry'
 
A very attractive small tree that is popular for its glossy, deep purple-red foliage. Crimson sentry holds its colour well and provides an excellent focal point or colour contrast in the landscape.
 
Leaves emerge in the spring as a vibrant red, before taking on a deeper purple. Autumn colours are golden yellow, bronze and orange.
Leaves are large and have the distinct 5 lobed shape of the platanoides Crimson Sentry has an upright and narrow growth habit and is well suited to small or narrow areas.
 
The growth rate is slow to moderate.
 
Tree size: 8 m high and 3 – 4 m wide, in 20 years
 
Position and Care:
 
A hardy and low maintenance tree, once established. Crimson sentry will tolerate a wide range of soil types and environmental conditions.
 
Crimson Sentry will perform best when planted in full sun, to part shade and prefer well-drained, moist, fertile soils that are neutral to slightly acidic, but are tolerant of a wide range of growing conditions. These maples are hardy trees once they are established, however they will benefit from deep watering during dry periods.
