Prunus mume pendula – Weeping Apricot

A magnificent specimen tree, creating a brilliant display in any garden. Mume pendula is one of the best ornamentals for colour in Winter, when the rest of the garden is bare. The flowers are also highly fragrant and will add another dimension of beauty to the garden.

Blooming begins in late winter and lasts for several weeks. Soft pink, semi-double flowers will open first at the top of the tree, on older wood, and then flower down the long weeping branches.

Inedible fruit may also appear in late spring.

Foliage is a bright green through the spring and summer, turning yellow and orange in autumn.

Tree Size:

Available as a standard graft at either 1.5 m or 1.8 m in height.

Will reach approximately 2.5 – 3 m tall x 3 - 4 m wide (in 20 years)

Tree Care:

For best results plant in full sun, in fertile, free draining soil, preferably a friable loam with good aeration.

If the soil is free draining, dig a hole twice the size of the root ball, plant the tree so the top of the root ball is level with the soil line and back fill with a soil and compost mixture. If the soil is not free draining, plant the tree in a raised mound of soil and compost mix, to prevent water logging.

Water in well at planting, and water regularly, especially in dry spells. Cherries are shallow rooted and young trees will benefit from being mulched. Apply mulch in a ring around the tree base, keeping clear of the trunk.

Please stake your tree.
