Quince BA29-C Rootstock

Quince BA29-C is a semi-dwarfing rootstock for Pear and Quince, reaching 60% of seedling tree size

BA29-C (Quince B) is a hardy, precocious and extremely productive tree. It is more tolerant of drought conditions than Quince A or C.

Quince B will adapt well to most soils, and is more tolerant of poorer soils and alkaline (high pH) soils than Quince A or C. Quince B will perform best in good, well drained soils. Heavy, moist soils are preferred to light, shallow soils. Established trees can withstand wet conditions, but not waterlogged soil.

Quince B is incompatible with most pear varieties, requiring the use of an interstem (a compatible stem piece) between the scion variety and the Quince understock. Will tend to sucker when grafted to a pear.

Mature tree height: 3.5 - 4.5 meters

Soil: Quince B will adapt well to most soils, but not waterlogging

Precocity: Medium

Support required: No

Available in two sizes:

Grafting Grade - ready to graft this winter

Liner Grade - to plant out and grow on for budding in summer, or grafting the following winter
